The operations of the Fish Innovation Centre began in the year 2001 when the Development Organization of Inner Savo, Technology Centre Teknia, the University of Kuopio and the Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute signed an agreement to begin a project whose goal was to develop aquaculture.

The development of the sector has been realized through a variety of projects which have resulted in the creation of a vast regional, national and international network of expertise.

FIC's project phase came to a close at the end of 2007. The project's most important achievement, establishing and assertion of its development operations in the fish sector, was clinched in on the 15th of May 2007, through the founding of FIC Ltd. - a consulting company with a unique national and international mission.
